The Art of Being: A Self-Portrait Workshop for Women

$175.00
Only 10 left in stock

Date: Sunday, January 11th

Time: 11am - 3pm

Location: Studio in Philadelphia

Getting in front of the camera is an art form. And here's what I need you to know - you existing is just a beautiful thing. The art of being is truly enough.

A few years ago, I started doing these self-portraits and it became this amazing exercise in falling in love with myself. I was studying myself the same way I study my clients, looking at myself through the lens the way I do for the women in my "Black Women Being" series. And it was beyond interesting.

I want to help you do the same.

In this 4-hour workshop, we're going to get you comfortable in front of the camera. I'm teaching you how to film on your phone, how to use a camera, how to set yourself up. But really, we're practicing the art of witnessing yourself - of seeing that just being is enough.

You're leaving with:

  • The skills to photograph yourself at home

  • Two edited portraits by me

  • The Dreamy Guide (sent immediately upon purchase)

  • A whole new relationship with your own image

This is for the woman ready to study herself, to celebrate herself, to fall in love with what she sees.

11:00am - 11:15am: Welcome & Foundation Quick introductions and share your journey with self-portraiture - how it became an act of falling in love with yourself through the same lens you use for clients. Set the tone that this is about studying and celebrating themselves, not performing for the camera. Show a few powerful images from your self-portrait work and "Black Women Being" series.

11:15am - 12:00pm: Technical Foundations - Phone Photography Teach the basics: using portrait mode, finding natural light, understanding angles and distance. Have them practice on each other first to build confidence. Cover composition basics - where to place themselves in the frame, how to use their environment. Show them how to set up their phone with a tripod or makeshift stand, and use the timer or remote shutter.

12:00pm - 12:45pm: Camera Fundamentals & Setup Move into working with an actual camera. Cover aperture for that beautiful background blur, the importance of focus, and basic settings. Teach them how to set up a self-timer or remote trigger. This is where they learn to create their own setup at home.

12:45pm - 1:45pm: Individual Portrait Sessions with You Spend about 5-7 minutes with each woman, directing them and capturing 2-3 setups that you'll edit later. While waiting, the other women can practice self-portraits with their phones or cameras in different areas of your space.

1:45pm - 2:50pm: Self-Study Practice Extended dedicated time (over an hour!) for them to shoot themselves with everything they've learned. This gives them real space to experiment, get uncomfortable, push through awkwardness, and find their rhythm. Move around offering guidance and encouragement as they practice studying themselves.

2:50pm - 3:00pm: Closing Circle & Next Steps Share discoveries, discuss when they'll receive their edited portraits, and give them a practice assignment.
